Some people believe that children should learn together regardless of their levels of intelligence, whereas others think that gifted children should be taught separately. In my opinion, placing children of different levels of intelligence in the same class is detrimental to students.
On the one hand, children who are of different levels of intelligence could help motivate each other and possibly help each other out with understanding certain assignments or subjects. Group presentation, brainstorm and Think, Pair, Share are some great activities that facilitate students’ development in class. Some children tend to make friends easily, depending on their personality traits, while others may want to do well in school just for the sake of not wanting to fall behind other students.
On the other hand, I believe that children who are put in a classroom with different levels of intelligence could do more harm than good. Some children may feel discouraged asking questions or discouraged their classmates have the potential of getting better grades. The school could be considered difficult for that reason because some children commonly have fear of being wrong in a classroom, which is something many teachers should be aware of. Some children may also have a difficult time answering questions due to a lack of confidence. This may also affect students’ poor motivation and make them feel self-conscious.
In conclusion, I think it is important to consider several factors before deciding which option benefits students more as this could be something that could either make or break a child’s education.
